Damned blasted poet

Damned blasted poet

Always writing her emotions

Flooding us in her tears that have formed giant oceans

Drowning us in the waves of her heartache and despair

Throwing out disharmony without ever a care!

Is there no uplifting prose that she could ever write?

Or is everything we read about yet another fight?

Can she not write about the roses or the birds that sing in spring?

Can she not write about the weather or a shiny wedding ring?

Must she always write so dull about agony and pain?

Must she always fly above us and entrench us in the rain?

Damned blasted poet

I beg you stop your whimpers and your gripes

We love your prose and literature but please write other types!

Fair-Weather Friend

You call me a fair-weather friend, that’s not true

I am here for you

Though times are hard for me too, I don’t like being blue

So often I seem cold to you, but I am always there for you

I don’t always say warm words, I tell home truths too much

I try to bring humour in and it makes me seem out of touch

I sit and listen to your woes and I sit and listen quietly

It doesn’t mean that my “Oks” make me take your problems lightly

I can’t let your problems become mine; I can’t get too involved

I don’t have the energy or the time, especially when your problems are old

I tell you time again, how you can mend your pains

But you just carry on your path and it often drives me insane

So when I don’t call or say too much, think about my life too

Think about how I sit and listen and that I am there for you

How I try not to talk about my own anger and pains

How I listen dutifully when your cries are always the same

How I hear the same thing over and over again

And I’ve not yet gone completely away

Is it fair then to say…

You’re a fair-weathered friend?

Well, Okay!

What are vampires to me?

To me, a vampire is never messy when actually feeding. They take great care and consideration when feeding not to leave any evidence behind that could trace back to them. They respect their prey, they respect their prey for the life that is sacrificed in order to keep its own life flowing. They are shrewd by nature, but considerate and well-mannered.

Vampires generally do not live alone; they go about in packs and travel a lot during the night to hunt. They do not however, hunt in packs unless they are settling scores. Where they hunt and how they hunt is usually discussed within their nests to avoid any pattern setting. Typically a vampire will travel to hunt anywhere within a 200 mile radius of their home, they avoid a pattern being set by having one large nest in every 30 to 50 mile radius near large populations and generally swap and change their abode with others as they are not limited to their favourite pack members, but the whole extension of the vampire network.

Vampires typically accept each other very easily and are very protective of all other vampires of their breed, treat each other as though they were very, very close siblings, even if they only ever meet each other once a decade.  They know who is a vampire and who isn’t instinctively and they never get it wrong.

If a vampire isn’t seen to have an instinct to protect or love their own kind easily, they tend to either destroy themselves or become destroyed by the pack members within one lunar cycle.

Vampires have a strong sense of pack relations and traditions. The older they get the more refined they become of the mortal culture that surrounds them. They maintain traditional values; they maintain etiquette and react to the area as the highest possible class that’s available. The vampires have their own dates for special occasions and have their very own culture which they all respect and protect fiercely. Anyone who is sloppy, anyone who acts out of line threatens the very essence of the pack and they don’t allow this and like wolves will either kill off or run out of the pack the one who upsets anything. Along with their traditions there is a hierarchy that is respected profusely, there is a system as to who is top dog and who isn’t and anyone challenging that upsets the pack and if you upset the pack, you die, simple as that.

Despite the respect for mortals they have, they also understand that they are killers and they have to end lives sooner or later and if they don’t, they betray themselves and their nature.

If you are considered physically or more importantly mentally too weak for the pack, they will end your existence. If you are a sloppy killer, you will be killed. If you lure hunters to the pack, you will be destroyed, if you go against tradition you will die and if you ever commit a crime against a member of the pack you will be trialled and if found guilty tortured horribly before you die.

Vampires respect each other, they respect the hierarchy and they respect traditions. They do not treat each other as slaves, they do not turn their own kind away and they always help out.

They work together to keep each other safe and happy.

They hide from sunlight but are not completely at risk in mild light, such as twilight, dawn, and dusk, low light day like cloudy rainstorm weather or fog.

They have no problems with religious artefacts, water or garlic.

But like anything can be killed with a stake through the heart.

My vampires are pack animals, they don’t like to be alone and they never will be entirely alone.

There is safety in numbers and they know this.

They also have semi-immortal servants which are kind of half sired that protect them during the day. Like the original Fright Night.

They are very picky about who they sire and get to know their sired children before doing so.

A vampire isn’t moody, they live their lives very similarly to humans if they can and they are often very thoughtful, content creatures.

Because their memory is wiped when they are sired they don’t dwell on their mortal past but rather get on with their existence as though it’s a reincarnation – which it is.

They don’t sparkle.

They don’t rip their victims’ limb from limb.

They don’t taunt their prey.

They can cross water.

They can eat normal food and drink.

They don’t need to sleep in coffins or sleep at all.

That’s what vampires are to me.

Cold Sands (introduction)

Windy, grey and cold was the weather that day, the cold wet sand beneath Rebecca’s bare feet felt oddly comforting to her. Trying to warm herself in vain with folded arms rubbing her shoulders, standing in nothing but a renaissance style under-dress, she watched the horizon intently as though focusing on something approaching, but there was nothing and nor was she really expecting there to be.
She could hear them coming behind her – her family and her maidservant, calling out to her to get inside and put some clothes on, as she might catch her death of cold; but she looked on and the nearer they got, the further towards the sea she walked as though hypnotized by some demonic siren.
Intrigued to find out what happens next? Like this post and if I get 10 likes by the 20th November I will make a story for you.
Thank you, enjoy!

Rainy memories

Darkness is wrapping itself around me today

It is getting stormy

The rain trickles down my window

The air is getting damp

My bones start creaking with the weather

My muscles start to cramp

But I look on, out that window

To see what weather does

I see grass waving at me in the wind

The atmosphere has a buzz

I feel so sleepy watching this

I dream of better days

But whilst I sit here watching it all

The fire is ablaze

I am wrapped up nice and warm

Watching this rainy weather

Then I sigh and think of you

And how we were together

A smile forms upon my face of memories almost forgotten

How soft your skin was in those days, almost like pure cotton

I fall asleep in my chair, with the memories I hold of you

And I dream of times that were from past, before your sudden adieu

You will live on in my heart; there you’ll always have a place

I remember fondly your sweet and smiling face

I will join you shortly dear

My life has been long but good

And together we’ll be in heaven

Just like lovers should

wind howls around my soul

Wind howls around my soul, entrapping me in a tomb of bewilderment!

The sharp hissing of the air all around me sings an eerie tune with the winds groans from the typhoon.

Holding the woolen scarf around me tightly as I try to fight against the windstorm; an ever loosing battle, the wind sweeps under my feet, I fall back slowly like time turning around.

I do not fall, but I am lifted up into the black skies of doom. Swirling up into the air, like a balloon!
Higher and higher it takes me. My screams become a part of the eerie screams I hear in the typhoon!

Wondering why the wind moans so? Are they the voices of other lost souls?

Fried brains anyone?

Ah so this hot weather we’re having here in the UK has determined whether or not I am fit for Californian life or not, I am not; this heat makes my brain go fuzzy and I’ve not done anything remotely creative all week, two weeks of work lag and all I can think about is place names in my story – nothing more and nothing less.

Thankfully I live in the West Midlands where the weather is balanced in comparison to other places in England, in my opinion.  This weather is unlikely to last another week, but in case it does I may have to try and buck my ideas up and start writing whether I can think or not, whether I am turning out crap or not; because, in a word, not writing is killing me, OK that was more than one word but as I said my brain is fried.

My reading pile has increased since this hot weather set in, but instead of reading the masses of books that’s piling up around me, I am sitting and staring at them and trying to give myself leverage for two or three hours before finally picking up a book, reading three pages and then falling asleep.

I get heat stroke so easily and with my other health problems it’s not very nice to me.  Though this sunshine makes life less painful, it also makes me shockingly tired, why is my body so awkward?

On a good note I don’t eat much during this weather and I have lost 9llbs in a fortnight.

Constructive procrastination helping science?

Is it constructive procrastination if I am helping science, rather than sitting back doing my short story projects and 3 poems like I wanted to this morning, but can’t right now as I have a hazy head due to crap weather?

Paradox weather and profanities

Today I wrote a poem whilst sitting outside in the playground area of my son’s stay and play group and within it; I’ve done something I dislike.  I swore.

I, as a rule, don’t like swearing and people are instantly shocked whenever they’ve heard the odd time where I have used profanities.  In all my work, poems, songs, stories I find it very hard to make my characters swear, no matter how vulgar they might be as personalities.

I understand that swearing makes some characters come alive so it’s something I’ve got to overcome if I want to be a writing success, particularly as I liked the poem I wrote today – but I would probably never attempt to get it published, so here’s me, making a BIG step and posting it up here.  SHOCK!  HORROR!

PARADOX WEATHER

Warm and sunny, yet wet

Sometimes cloudy, it gets

Paradox weather like this makes me think God’s taking the piss

© Tina Cousins 2013

OK, the swear word used is very mild in comparison to what I could have put, but as I said, I usually avoid maledictions at all costs, not because I’m posh, because I am far from it.  I come from a mixed Cockney and Essex working/middle class background, I just find it too much effort to go ranting, raving and weaving words into my sentences which aren’t needed, also, perhaps I do it for the respect it gives me.  People tend to respect people more if you don’t profane.

Though, to be honest, when people find out I am from a Cockney/Essex background they think, yeah right, mainly because my grandmother actually paid for me to have some elocution lessons when I was younger to help with my speech problems originally.  I used to stammer something rotten and I don’t know how I managed it but I got rid of my lisp too, especially when mum got me additional speech therapy sessions done intensively for two years (three sessions a week).

The problem with that is, the rest of the family never takes you seriously, because they consider you posh or trying to make yourself better than them, when in fact, it’s them encouraging it.  Ha-ha.
